If you told me that I would write a song this week with an 82-year-old man who lives in New York City, who is an ordained deacon and former publisher of Stereo Review, whom I only know through our acquaintance on Twitter, I would have said, well...yeah, that does in fact sound EXACTLY like something I would do! Hurray! Edgar Hopper is a delightful soul: thoughtful and intelligent, compassionate and wise, with a great sense of humor and a weakness for cupcakes. It was the latter quality that inspired a little Twitter run of giddiness, and Edgar came up with a few lines that I thought sounded like they belonged in a song. So I wrote one! Edgar recently celebrated his birthday, so I offer this and what is maybe his very first official songwriter's credit as a little present, most humbly. I know that whenever he passes his cupcake shop now, he will smile, thinking about a goofy e-pal woman in Washington State.
Please enjoy charmingly rustic talents (that's my new phrase to describe my low-fi thrashing) which you may download from SoundCloud for NO MONEY AT ALL! If you like, toss over a couple of bones to the Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York Widow's & Children's Fund or the St. Augustine's Project in honor of an excellent guy and two great causes near and dear to him. Thanks!
